From Black and White to a Symphony of Color
For as long as I can remember, art has been my sanctuary, a place where time dissolves and creativity takes hold. Initially, my world was defined by the stark elegance of black and white graphics, the precise lines of etching and engraving. Color, I believed, was a realm beyond my grasp.
But then, something shifted. Inspired by the bold expressions of abstract masters like Jackson Pollock, Gerhard Richter, and Willem de Kooning, I dared to explore the vibrant world of color. I was mesmerized by their ability to orchestrate hues into breathtaking harmonies, each canvas a unique and authentic experience. Abstract art, I discovered, was a profound challenge, a delicate dance between simplicity and complexity, especially when working on a grand scale.
As I immersed myself in their works, I felt a deep, almost visceral connection to color. It was more than just visual; it was a healing process, an energizing force that lifted my spirits. I realized that the essence of art wasn't in depicting concrete objects, but in the dynamic interplay of hues, the very dance of color itself. Sometimes, I felt an almost insatiable craving for a particular shade, a desire to consume its essence.
I've even noticed a pattern in my own creative journey, a dominant color that defines each year. There was a year of lush greens, another of regal purples, a period of playful pinks, and now, I find myself bathed in the warm embrace of yellow. (More on the power of individual colors in a future post!)
The moment I allowed myself to play with color, everything changed. One day, sitting before a small canvas, I began mixing hues without any preconceived notion. And then, it appeared – an "Unknown Face", an abstract representation of Vincent van Gogh, a signpost confirming I was on the right path. That tiny 30x30 cm canvas, titled "Unknown Face," felt like a million-dollar gift, a validation of my artistic soul.
Friends and admirers expressed their desire to own it, but as it was a one-of-a-kind original, I decided to leverage the power of technology. I transformed "Unknown Face" into a pattern design, now known as "Molten Berries", making it accessible to everyone. Ironically, this pattern, rich in deep purples and burgundy reds, became an unexpected bestseller.
I wanted to share the story behind this pattern, to illuminate the originality and uniqueness of my artworks and designs. Every piece is born from my own hands, my own vision. I don't chase trends; I believe that true art transcends fleeting fashions, and abstract art, with its timeless language, is the perfect vehicle for this enduring expression.
So, how are you coloring your day? Do you have a leading color for this year?
